I get a lot of moms reaching out to me for family pictures. One of the biggest hurdles they face is convincing their husbands to get on board with them. It's so important to communicate with your husband what these portraits mean to you and try to make it work financially. You children will want to see pictures of them with BOTH their parents when they grow up. This isn't just for you, most importantly these are captured memories your children will have that they can treasure and share with their own families and grandchildren for many years.

Men generally don't like to have their photos taken. Trust me I know, I have two boys and my hubby to convince all the time. With that said, I always try to focus on what they enjoy. List what he loves to do on his spare time or with you and the kids. Rather than posing for an outfit you picked out and staring into a camera for an hour, I create Lifestyle Sessions where families are more interactive, playing having fun and less posing. I create an activity based family photoshoot like picnics, frisbee, amusement park, gaming or in your very own backyard just playing with the family. Whatever activity you choose as a family , the key is just to have FUN and I will capture everything and do the rest.

Nothing in life is perfectly posed, although I will always include posed shots for moms too. Candids are my favorite to capture, especially where dad is playing and wrestling with the kids. Please don't focus on perfection, because that can stress the kids and your husband. I know it's difficult to get everyone ready and perfect and by the time the session starts you feel everyone has to be well behaved and perfect. Trust me, as a photographer, I expect the kids to be loud, curious, running around, dancing and wiggly. I would find it way odd if a child behaved perfectly during one of my sessions. There is no such thing as a "perfect portrait" there is however perfect moments that happen to be captured. That is MY job, not yours. I want you all to enjoy the time you have with me and that hour you bless me with to capture your family.

If the money $ factor is brought up, just remind them of the splurges ( golf, gaming, hunting, cars..)I also offer payment plans for any budget. Beautiful family portraits are heirlooms that have no price. These are pictures that will be passed down for generations to come, for your future grandchildren and more.

What do you and your husband love to do as a family, that would be fun to photograph?
